“The Cloud Room garnered wild, though deeply underground, buzz…” – New York Times
Already released on limited edition 7’’ and download their anthem Hey Now Now is one of those songs that you just can’t get out of your head. J wrote the song in the winter of 2004 while he was suffering from increasingly difficult and unidentified symptoms, his doctor suggested he take a HIV test. The results came back positive. As is procedure, a second test was conducted. This also coincided with the doctor’s 3 week holiday. So with the results locked in the doctor’s surgery, J locked himself in his room for 18 days. After experiencing pretty much the entire spectrum of human emotion in the initial two weeks, he picked up his guitar and out came the melody and the “Hey now now, we going down down…” lyric. He recorded this initial idea onto his answering machine. On the doctor’s return J took the bus back to the surgery to hear the words “You’re fine. It was a false positive.” He broke down there and then, the worst weeks of his life turned in an instant to become the single greatest moment of his life. “I wanted to somehow bottle that searing joy”. He took the melody idea that he had recorded and turned it into Hey Now Now.
“A dynamite single…delivered so infectiously it’s near delirium” – pitchforkmedia
The bands forthcoming new single, the raw and edgy chaos of Blackout!, is the due for release in March 2008. Other pivotal album tracks, Waterfall and Sunlight Song display The Cloud Room’s ability to write every bit as good as Bowie or Roy Orbison, create lyrical content akin to Leonard Cohen or experimental soundscape ideas that could have been masterminded by Syd Barrett or Brian Eno – all of whom they count among their influences.
